John Adams by Page Smith is the first biography of John Adams to be written since the great treasury of his papers and letters became available to scholars. The Massachusetts lawyer and farmer, who became the second President of the United States was one of the most remarkable men of a remarkable generation, a revolutionary statesman, a diplomat, and a political theorist of wide range and profound insight. Mr. Smith tells the story of Adams' idyllic marriage to Abigail Smith of Weymouth and of his often stormy relationships with his great contemporaries, Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, and Hamilton.
Page Smith is a graduate of Dartmouth and holds M.A. and Ph. D. degrees from Harvard. A member of the Institute of Early American History and Culture of Williamsburg, Virginia, he lives in Santa Monica, California, and is Professor of History at the University of California at Los Angeles.
